What makes the Berkshire Pig so special?

The pork we sell at our shop in Richmond and online is all sourced from our own farm less than 5 miles away at Tunstall (hence our company name!) near Catterick.  The pigs we farm are called Berkshires and they are free range and reared outdoors.

By farming Berkshires, we really are supporting and ensuring the continuation of one of England's oldest breeds of pig.  They are a very hardy pig, and ideally suited to the rigours of outdoor living. On our farm we also provide them with shelter from strong sunlight, heavy rain, draughts and low temperatures.

In the Far East, Berkshire Pork is considered a rare delicacy! Indeed Berkshire Pork is prized around the world for its superior tenderness and flavour. The flesh is fine in texture and has a distinct flavour.  It is revered for its tender, deep tasting meat.  It is often referred to as the Wagyu equivalent of the Pork world, and connoisseurs marvel at the ratio of fat to meat that produces clean, meltingly crispy fat and proper, old fashioned tasting Pork.

Luckily you don’t have to travel to the Far East to experience some of the best pork on menus today. Kurobuta or “black hog” pork (as they call it) comes from the famed Berkshire pig.

We are proud to be farmers of Berkshire Pigs and by doing so we can provide our butcher's shop in Richmond (and ultimately you the customer!) with undoubtedly THE best pork.  If you haven't tried it yet, don't delay!
